We all will miss him dearly…

It is with the utmost sadness that we report the loss of our brother John in September of 2019.  As a happy, healthy, and very active guy he was taken from us so quickly.  Within a week he went from an unbeatable duckpin bowler to Swan Point Cemetery. 

Another Wedding out East, May ’11

John’s son Curt was married on May 14th, 2011 to Stephanie Chmielewski. The wedding, reception and celebrations were held at the Bay Voyage Inn in Jamestown, RI. They tried to honeymoon in New Hampshire, but the weather wouldn’t permit that, so they wandered into Massachusetts for a few days of being alone.

Marilyn did it again to Gordon, 2010

In March 2010, on Gordon’s Birthday, Marilyn sprang a surprise 75th party for him at the Laguna Riviera Dunes Club House, just like she did in 2005 for his 70th.  She got him there on the pretext of visiting a friend’s party which had too many people for their condo.

Gammy’s 100th Birthday Party, 2010

Gammy (that’s Martha Stevens Wilmot Walker for you non-family viewers) would have been 100 years old on June 21, 2010.  In celebration of this occasion, Sarah (Gordon’s daughter) decided to hold a party for all of Gammy’s descendants on June 19th.  We all had name tags like this, showing where we are in Gammy’s ancestry line.

This is Amy’s tag, who originally suggested the birthday party.

Fishing with Grankids, June 2008

In June 2008, John & Gordon took all available grandkids fishing on the “Snappa” out of Gallilee, RI.   Once again, Cyndie provided the fishing charter with a Christmas gift in December ’06 to John & Gordon. CLICK HERE to view the Video, and simply go back (upper left back arrow) when you’re done.

Very latest addition, January 2008

The really newest arrival to Gordon’s kids is Catherine Ann Perrone, born to Sarah (Gordon’s youngest daughter) and her husband Bob Perrone, on Thursday January 17, 2008 at 8:44AM at South County Hospital in Wakefield RI.   She weighed eight pounds thirteen ounces (WOW!), was twenty one and 1/2 inches long, had black hair and manicured nails, and was beautiful.  This is Sarah’s second child, after Lauren born a couple of years earlier.

Gordon’s other daughter Sue has four children, Adam, Brandon, Amy and David.  His son, Gordon Jr, has two boys, Daniel and Josiah, and a girl, Morgan. 

Myrtle Beach with Siblings, Sept ’07

In September of 2007, Gordon and Marilyn, along with his brother John and wife Carol, and his sister Cyndie rented a condo right on the beach in Myrtle Beach South Carolina.  They couldn’t remember ever having done this in their adult lives, and decided it was time to spend some quality time together.  They flew to Myrtle Beach where Gordon had found a three-bedroom condo on the internet, and it was perfect for what they needed.  A full size car rental was required and worked out well.  They ate “in” and “out”, did some shopping, and made a day-trip to Charlotte.  All agreed it was an enjoyable trip.

One of the newest arrivals to the John Wilmot family in Rhode Island is Isaac Martin Hecker, born to Amanda (John’s middle granddaughter) and her husband Adam Hecker, on September 17, 2006 at Women & Infants Hospital in Providence RI.  He weighed in at seven pounds thirteen ounces, has dark hair, is adorable, and was wrapped in a New England Patriots blanket.  Mandy is the youngest daughter of John’s son Curt.  This is Mandy & Adam’s first.

What was then the almost newest arrival to the Gordon Wilmot family in Rhode Island is Lauren Elizabeth Perrone, born to Sarah (Gordon’s youngest daughter) and her husband Bob Perrone, on Monday, November 21, 2005 at 3:27AM at South County Hospital in Wakefield RI.   She weighed seven pounds three ounces, was twenty and one half inches long,  has reddish-brown hair, and is cute as a button.  This was Sarah’s first.

Gordon’s other daughter Sue has four children, Adam, Brandon, Amy and David.  His son, Gordon Jr, has two boys, Daniel and Josiah, and a girl, Morgan. 



Stevens Reunion, August ’05

The fourth Bi-Annual reunion of the Stevens Family was held August 6, 2005. It was hosted by Betsey and Ken Von Holtz at the home of her daughter Laurie and her husband Ed Griffin in Trumbull CT. A van-full of five came from Rhode Island, Sherry and Bob from Vermont, and the rest were locals from Connecticut. Good food, drink and friendship was had by all. In two years, it’s Cyndie’s turn for Rhode Island. We’re talking about maybe Bermuda in ’07. That would be something, huh?

A 50th Anniversary, June 2005

On June 11, 2005, John and Curt (two of John & Carol’s sons) gave a 50th anniversary dinner party for their parents at the Remmington House in Apponaug. The still youthful two were married June 18, 1955 at All Saint’s Church in Providence. Some 16 of their family were present to share an anniversary cake which included an image of a photo of the original cake cutting 50 years earlier.

Another Milestone, March 2005

On March 19, 2005, after six months of surreptitious planning, Marilyn pulled off the impossible.  She gathered over 50 of Gordon’s family and closest friends for a complete surprise 70th birthday party for him, held in a beach tent on Anna Maria Island off the west coast of Florida. See more at Gordon and Marilyn’s home page by… Clicking Here

A Wedding out East, September ’04

In September 2004, Gordon’s youngest daughter, Sarah, married Bob Perrone of Wakefield, RI.  The ceremony and the reception were held at the Bay Voyage Inn in Jamestown, RI.  They honeymooned in Hawaii, and now live a newly purchased home in South Kingstown.  Bob is in the home mortgage field, and both he and Sarah work for Washington Trust.

A Wedding out West, June 2004

In June 2004, John’s youngest son Jeff married Jeannine Williams in their Oregon hometown. Much of the Wilmot clan flew out west for the wedding, including John & Carol, their son John, Gordon & Marilyn, and Cyndie. The bride and groom honeymooned down the coast for several days, and are now settled in Woodburn Oregon with Jeannine’s children Chelsey and Bailey.

Stevens Reunion, June 2003

John & Carol hosted this Stevens Reunion in June of 2003. The whole clan enjoyed each others company in John’s back yard.

Fishing in Gloucester MA, August 2002

Well, she did it again. For Christmas 2001, Cyndie gave John & Gordon a full day’s fishing out of Gloucester, MA. Not only that, but she threw in two nights in a B&B, and included Carol and Marilyn. The ladies shopped in Rockport, while the guys did what’s in the pics. John’s was 26 lbs (#2 on the boat), and Gordon’s was 22 lbs (#4). These are serious cod fish cakes!

A Milestone, April 2002

On April 12, 2002,   John celebrated the big 70 !   His entire family   (four generations) gathered at his family’s homestead to celebrate the grand, but certainly not unexpected, occasion.  As you can see from the picture, he had a surprise visitor in Miss Piggy.  She showed up for the party in her Tu Tu, sang and danced for John, and was quite naughty. He, of course, hated the attention, and blushed to prove it.

A Sad Loss, December 2001

In December ’01, three weeks before her 21st birthday, Nate’ passed away. Nate’ was a stray, taken in by “Gammy” and “Gampy” (Martha & Glenn Walker) in New Hampshire in early 1981. She moved with them to Rhode Island in 1992. In 1997, “Gammy” passed away, and Gordon & Marilyn adopted Nate’ as their own. She traveled back and forth to Florida with them for four years. She traveled with them to Canada to spend several days with friends in Toronto. She went just about everywhere Gordon & Marilyn went. But on a cold day in December, they found Nate’ could go with them no longer. She’s traveling with “Gammy” and “Gampy” now.

Our November 1999 Addition

The 1999 arrival to the Wilmot family in Rhode Island was David Anthony Cabeceiras born to Sue (Gordon’s oldest daughter) and her husband  Kevin Cabeceiras on Saturday, November 20, 1999 at 10:50AM at Women and Infants Hospital in Providence RI.   He weighed six pounds, fourteen ounces, has light, (but not white) hair, is unbelievably handsome, just like his maternal grandfather.  Sue now has four children, Adam, Brandon, Amy, and now David.

Gordon’s other daughter Sarah has one child.  His son, Gordon Jr, lives in Aguascalientes Mexico, and has two boys, Daniel and Josiah, and a girl, Morgan.

Fishing, June 2001

For Christmas in 2000, Cyndie gave to both John and Gordon, the Christmas gift of a day of sport fishing out of Point Judith in South Kingston RI. They picked the date of Thursday, June 7th, and had the best fishing of their lives. A total of 12 Striped Bass were caught, of which 4 were thrown back (not 29″). The largest was 40″, and weighed in at well over 25 pounds. The biggest fish ever caught by either brother. The smallest kept was 30″, still the biggest ever for either of them.
